A Reflection of Trevor Seaman’s Teaching
by Susanna
Trevor’s teaching really was so foundational for me. He talked about the Word of God and how we need to come to a place where we are digging in the Word and really knowing what it says. Trevor also brought to light that a wild horse has so much power, but if it never chooses to be bridled or tied up and tamed, it’s power will never be useful for anything. I think this is an amazing picture of what discipleship is: choosing to say yes to God, yes to being bridled, yes to being tamed! This allows the power of God into our lives so that we can be used for God’s glory and purpose. We as students have felt the need to weigh everything we hear according to the words of Jesus, so that greater truth can come into our lives. I am so thankful the Lord brought Trevor here to teach us. God is gracious to lead in the right way if we yield to Him and to His plan for us.
Outdoor Pursuits
Contrary to what one might assume, Bowl and Pitcher is not a game of sport. It’s a natural feature at Riverside State Park in Spokane where Wade took the students exploring for their Sunday outing! The group made some good memories as they hiked the terrain and searched for the geo cache (for more info, check out the wikipedia page: http://en..wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocaching).
Becca was the student that discovered the geo cache, and she proudly logged the date and time of her finding!
Ever since Matti Arnold became apart of the Gateways community in 2007, it’s become a Gateways Tradition to celebrate Valentine’s Day (with pure and friendly motives) by topping off the day with a rich cup of Finnish Hot Chocolate! On February 14, Rachel prepared a delicious pasta primavera with Italian-seasoned breadsticks. The guy students made heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies for all the girls and the girl students gave Matti and the guys boxed chocolates. As Matti served up his special hot chocolate, we played “the warm fuzzy circle game” by giving personal encouragement to each one in the circle, and then we decorated sugar cookies!
Student Led – Elijah
Elijah’s student led teaching was a provoking exhortation for “Tough Love” and how we are commissioned by God to love one another. Elijah gave us a specific challenge to love and bless those in authority over us.
Matthew 5:43-45
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
Elijah’s word of wisdom “Stick with them (through good and bad). Let them know God’s love through you…”
Family Shabbat with the Rudolphs

The students had a special Shabbat at the Rudolph’s home this past week. They were glad for the chance to get to know their leaders in a more intimate setting. The Italian-style meal included eggplant parmesan with pasta and Shersti’s wonderful challah! The school contributed a spinach salad and fresh strawberry cheesecake to the meal. Chess matches and lively conversation rounded out the restful Erev Shabbat, and everyone looked forward to a restful Saturday as well!
